This article explains how to Install GhostPractice® on a new workstation for an existing user.
Preparing for Installation
- Collect remote access details for the PC and the server (TeamViewer or AnyDesk ID and password). Keep the user available to approve prompts.
- Confirm device requirements: supported Windows, network reachability to SQL Server, write access to C:\Program Files (x86), and local admin for install.
- Locate the GhostPractice installer: open the correct version folder, then the Application subfolder, and confirm Setup.exe is present.
- Ensure prerequisites are available or will install when prompted: Crystal Reports Runtime (32-bit and 64-bit), .NET Framework 4.6 or later, and Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime.
Granting Secure Access
- Share the remote ID and one-time password with your Dye & Durham support agent using your approved secure channel.
- Confirm the agent’s name, scheduled session time, and scope of work for compliance and audit purposes.
Software Installation and Setup
- Run the installer: double-click Setup.exe, follow the wizard, and accept the EULA. Install to the default path C:\Program Files (x86)\Korbicom\GhostPractice\.
- Allow prerequisites to install. If a prerequisite fails, close Office apps, confirm admin rights, and rerun Setup.exe.
- First launch and server settings: open GhostPractice, then enter the SQL instance and database when prompted.
- SQL instance: <SERVER>\<INSTANCE> or <SERVER>
- Database: <GP_DATABASE>
- If unknown, retrieve from a working PC via GhostPractice > Tools > Edit Server
- Validate sign-in and licensing: log in with the user’s GhostPractice account. If activation is required, contact support-gp-sa@dyedurham.com.
- Add-ins and integrations: test required Outlook or Office integrations and confirm any firm-specific settings or paths.
Post-Installation Checklist
- User launches GhostPractice, authenticates, and sees expected modules.
- Reports open without Crystal errors.
- Outlook or Office add-ins load and function.
- No unexpected prompts on relaunch. Record SQL instance and database in firm asset notes.
Quick Troubleshooting
- Prerequisite failure: close Office apps, confirm admin rights, rerun Setup.exe.
- Crystal errors on reports: repair Crystal Runtimes from Apps, then relaunch GhostPractice.
- Database connection issues: verify network reachability to SQL Server, recheck instance and database names, then retry.
- Wrong server details: GhostPractice > Tools > Edit Server, correct values, save, relaunch.
Minimal Rollback
- Uninstall GhostPractice and SAP Crystal Reports Runtime entries, reboot, then reinstall using the steps above.
